About
The Directorate for Geographic Information Services (GIS) is the technical arm of the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS) responsible for the collection, analysis, management, and dissemination of geospatial data and mapping services across Taraba State. The Directorate provides the geospatial foundation for effective land administration, infrastructure planning, environmental management, and sustainable development in the State. It ensures that all spatial data and mapping operations in TAGIS are conducted with accuracy, modern technology, and international best practices.
The Department is being headed by TPL Salemson Healson
Johanan
Town Planner Salemson Healson Johanan is a dynamic
urban planning and geospatial professional with a strong
interest in Urban and Regional Planning, Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), and Digital Mapping Technologies.
As the Director of the GIS Directorate at TAGIS, he leads the
Directorate's efforts in spatial data management, digital
mapping, and geospatial intelligence for effective governance
and sustainable development.
He holds a B.Tech in Urban and Regional Planning, with certifications in GIS and AutoCAD Applications. He is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (MNITP) and a Registered Town Planner (RTP).
Key Functions
- Acquisition and processing of aerial imagery, satellite data, and ground survey information.
- Digitization and georeferencing of cadastral maps and layouts.
- Development and management of the TAGIS GeoDatabase and spatial data infrastructure.
- Coordination of GIS data sharing standards and quality assurance across MDAs.
- Implementation of GIS applications for land use planning, environmental monitoring, and urban development.
